Full disclosure I hate getting on ladders. I mean climbing up on a 6 foot ladder to hang a picture is no problem, but climbing up a full extension ladder to paint the side of a 2 story house…count me out. Home Depot sent me this Gorilla 23’ MultiPosition Ladder with tool cap, and it couldn’t have shown up at a better time.

If you watch my YouTube videos you know that I recently moved into a new shop! That’s right, I’m out of the garage and into a 20x40 foot commercial space with 14 foot high ceilings at its peak. One of my biggest priorities moving into the new shop was having good lighting. I had a lighting analysis of my shop done, and American Green Lights sent me out a kit of 16 high powered LED lights. The only problem is I had to install them myself…and that means climbing up on a big ladder. The thing I absolutely hate to do.

After the electricians came in and wired up the shop it was time to hang my lights. The Gorilla 23’ MultiPosition Ladder has a 14 foot 1 inch reach when used in it’s A frame twin step configuration. That gave me exactly 1 inch of wiggle room to hang these lights at the highest point of my shop. I was going to have to climb all the way up this ladder and work overhead drilling and mounting light fixtures…yikes!

(This ladder has a 23’ foot reach at full extension, 14’1” reach in stair configuration, and a 13’8” reach in 90 degree configuration.)

I climbed up and got to work, and for the first 30 minutes I was having bouts of vertigo while being confident I was going to fall and break something. As time went on and we settled into a groove hanging the lights I realized I could relax. The Gorilla ladder is very heavy duty, and sturdy as a rock. I appreciated the wide steps, and the large work top with places to set my drills, screws, bits or wire, and other odds and ends that you collect on a job like this. By the time the job was done I felt like a ladder pro, and I can’t recommend this Gorilla 23’ extension ladder enough. If you’re like me and have issues with heights it’s important to know the ladder you’re on is going to be stable, support you and your tools, and easy to configure.

Let’s talk about set up. This is not a lightweight ladder, but I could easily carry it around by myself. The ladder has wheels on the bottom of one side that allow you to roll it into position if need be. To extend the ladder there are two yellow handles on either side of the rungs that twist to unlock. There is also a bright red indicator on the side of the ladder warning you its in the unlocked position. When you have the ladder set to the correct height simply twist the handle and it snaps into place securely locking against the frame.

To set the ladder to A frame, 90 degree, and full extension there are large push in knobs on either side of the apex. Simply push these in and the ladder locks automatically in each of the preset configurations.

This truly is one ladder to rule them all. I’m a big proponent of buying the tool that may be more expensive in the short term, but will likely save you money in the long run. What I mean by that is if you bought one of those cheap wooden 6 foot ladders chances are it won’t last forever and you’ll have to replace it. Then you have to spend even more money replacing it. Also if you have a job where a little ladder won’t cut it you’ll have to go buy a larger ladder anyways, and then you’ll be storing TWO LADDERS! So just get the tool that works for multiple applications that you’ll likely never have to replace. Like this Gorilla 23’ MultiPosition Ladder.
