The Stubby Milwaukee 12V Impact Wrench

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by The Home Depot. I am excited to announce that I have partnered with The Home Depot Prosepctive tool review program. I received all these tools for free, and I am paid for these posts, but these opinions are my own.

You probably know the sound. The high impact ratcheting screech of an air powered impact wrench. I immediately think NASCAR or getting my oil changed. It’s that tool the pro’s use to GET THE JOB DONE! I’ll just be over here with the janky lug nut wrench buried under the spare in the weird styrofoam insert. You know, the one that has a short level, and gives you zero torque. The one you never think about until you’re stuck on the side of the road wearing clothes not intended for changing a tire struggling to bust off the lugs nuts to change a flat. As a new driver this was a right of passage. I still remember my father tossing my the wrench and telling me to “figure it out” as he made sure I knew how to change a flat before being handed the keys. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I’m not the skinny 16 year old with a half mullet any longer. I’m a man…I’m 40.

When Home Depot sent me the Milwaukee Stubby 12V 3/8” Impact Wrench I got a bit excited. Gone are the days of fumbling with the lug nut wrench that came with my truck. This 12 volt beauty now lives in my truck as part of my emergency kit. I keep a fresh 12V battery with it, and I know changing a tire will be a breeze should the need arise. The need is definitely going to arise with all the nails and screws that find their way into my driveway…

The Stubby as its affectionately call packs a wallop in a compact frame. At only 4.8” long the Milwaukee Stubby can fit into tight spaces and deliver up to 250 ft lbs of break away torque. In other words, that lug nut is coming off now matter how tight Jim Bob cranked it down after my last tire rotation.

The Stubby has 4 modes. Mode 1 to 3 are RPM controls, and Mode 4 is the auto shut off function that stops the torque when the nut is seated. Jim Bob won’t have near as hard of a time getting that lug nut off at the next tire rotation. This little dynamo is not just for removing lug nuts too. If you need to drive or remove a bolt in a tight space the Milwaukee Stubby impact wrench is your friend. Your friend that packs a punch.

All of this is powered by a Milwaukee REDLITHIUM 12 volt battery with Red Link intelligence that prevents overloading and overheating, thus extending the life of your tools. I’m going to add another nickname to this little beast of a tool: mighty mouse!
